Revo in The Funktion Room

Contact Revo

Hello my friends… I’m Revo (A.K.A. George Reeves) and you can catch me on “Revo In The Funktion Room” right here on Love Soul Radio London every Thursday evening from 6pm (UK time) Serving only the finest selection and very best Funk & Soul…

Because of my surname, I was nicknamed Reevo as a schoolboy. Some years later, when I had just turned twenty, after a write up in a music column from a local newspaper, I’d been playing bass for a band at a local gig called “The Cellar Bar” at South Hill Park in Bracknell, Berkshire. The newspaper’s writer had misspelt my name which read “The band’s bass guitarist Revo played with a funky staccato-like style”. Now, I didn’t know if this was a good or a bad thing at the time. I wondered if he was just kindly saying that I’d hit one too many bum-notes or that I’d just stopped playing because I’d forgotten what the hell I was doing!!?…

Anyway, I digress. What did happen after that was the guys in the band thought that my name looked really cool and was much more pleasing on the eye misspelt, and so it stuck. From then on, my new nickname became Revo (but is still pronounced Reevo if catch my drift!!?)  I hope that clears up the whole “You say tomato” thing!!?…

I was born and grew up about a mile away from Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, U.K. and I have always had a great passion for music from a very young age. I was the youngest of seven children and was surrounded by music from day one. I was very much into the sounds of the sixties, especially any black music, from soul, Motown and Stax, plus also reggae, latin and jazz …

My heroes were James Brown, Otis and Aretha, Curtis and Marvin, and the very top of my hero-tree belonged to Stevie… I began singing and playing violin and cello at school before the age of 11. I was later able to play both guitar and piano to a certain degree, however, it was in the mid-seventies that I purchased my very first bass guitar and when I truly discovered my weapon of choice…

By the eighties, Funk, Soul and Reggae were very much bass prominent and I knew that this was the road I wanted to take. I joined my first band at the start of the decade playing small local venues and by the end of it I was part of a group as a professional musician, signed to a record label with a recording contract, touring twenty-four-seven and even making national radio and TV appearances. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with many fine musicians along the way.

Some of which included the son of The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, Zak Starkey (Oasis and The Who) also Paul Weller (The Jam and Style Council) plus Jean Paul “Bluey” Maunick (Light Of The World and Incognito)
